In the Name of Love?

An 8 year old boy was caught stealing bread in a market in Iran.

In the name of Islam he is being punished, his arm was crushed under the weight of a car and was rendered useless. Is this the religion of peace and love?

I am in no position to judge the practices or beliefs of any religion, but this is clearly unjustifiable. It is also wrong to claim that is a result of the religion when it could easily be a product of long standing tradition and culture. People often consider religion and tradition/culture to be superimposed. In reality, a religion may have some influence on a culture, but does not completely envelop it. The Islamic religion is not issuing the crushing of this boy's arm, instead, it is perhaps one of the laws of the village, or nation that this is occurring in. There is no chapter in the Quran that states, any boy of younger than 10 will have his arm crushed if caught stealing anything from a market. God is all forgiving, he understands all, he knows all; we must be able to distinguish between religion and culture in order to understand where some of these things actually come from, and before we can ever make judgments about them.

This is against Islam law. These people are just morons who mixed culture and religion with political so bad, they twisted it so much that they no longer recognoised which is which. These people should relearn Islam as what it is. Don't judge the whole religion because some morons decided to be a Muslim version of KKK.

I completely agree with you, but I also believe that the writer got that point across as well; we must distinguish between the two!

My current post is about this - that we in the west are unable to comprehend the realities of Sharia law, and must wake up and realize that they ARE sincere, and no amount of negotiating will be effective. A group who would crush the arm of a child is not going to be changed by State Department blandishments - from ANY President.

Oh my, If I had been there, I probably wouldn't be here.
If something like this happened in Kansas City, and I was there, I would step between the innocent child and the Devout Muslims.
If I see a child being abused....I step in. I have had some wild confrontations with unstable people slapping, kicking, screaming at, or cursing children. I will not let the innocent be abused.

THIS IS A FAKE!!!!

FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE

Apparently you lot didn't check the Snopes.com article as mentioned by a previous poster before you decided to opine on islam and Iran etc.

PS; did you know that 600,000 Iraqi children died as a direct result of US sanctions on Iraq before the invasion?

Even if the article attached to these pictures is a fake the pictures arent. and whats more is that this sort of brutality does happen in these countries that are often associated with this kind of madness and you often see a lot of bystanders doing nothing. No one can tell me that you would find that in America or Australia and the like. The crowd would be kicking that guys head in and freeing the child and reporting it to the police if it was anywhere else but those fanatical countries.
